Nutritional (and Lifestyle) Advice for Men

  • Avoid taking unnecessary medications. High blood pressure medications, for example, decrease not only erectile function but also sexual drive.
  • Increase the amount of exercise in your daily routine.
  • Have a regular sex life.
  • Reduce your stress level.
  • Avoid eating simple sugars to optimize your insulin level.
  • Studies show that vitamins A and E, zinc, selenium, and omega-3 favorably influence androgen (male hormone) and sperm production. However, make sure to get these vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables rather than health supplements alone as researchers have shown that too much flax seed oil, for example, may cause prostate cancer.
  • Avoid alcohol which has been shown to cause impotence and lower testosterone levels.
  • Eat good protein such as fish, almonds, and chicken. Insufficient amino acid also leads to low testosterone levels.
  • Optimize your intake of good fats as a long-term, low fat diet can accelerate the decline of testosterone in old age.
  • Try switching to boxers which help improve blood flow to the testes.
  • Acupuncture can increase testosterone level by improving blood flow to the testes and by decreasing stress.
